I’m not fat, I’m medicated

March 16, 2020 4 Comments

I recently read an article about a writer who had to choose between gaining weight or staying sane. In that moment, I wondered whether the weight gain I’ve been experiencing went further than a bad diet. I’ve always been sensitive about my weight. Growing up, I was reminded that I was the fat child. IRead More

Growth in Failure

January 6, 2020 Leave a Comment

There is growth in failure. Starting over is hard. Starting over means facing the reasons why you “failed” and using them as building blocks for your success. 2019 was a hard year for most people. Many of us were forced to make decisions that we thought we would never have to make, and I amRead More

Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. – Albert Einstein When was the last time you ventured beyond your comfort zone. The comfort zone is great at reinforcing past knowledge, but does nothing to foster growth. Growing means we have to place ourselves in a comfortable place thatRead More

There Goes Happiness

April 12, 2018 Leave a Comment

I imagined happiness as lamp hidden in a dark corner; shining light on perceived fears and brining warmth where none existed. When I was younger, I thought that happiness was hidden in the process of growing older. I would look forward to my birthday not because I would get cake, but because it marked oneRead More

You is Strong

I promised myself that I wouldn’t write again. It was a decision made from a place of fear and not a place of conviction. I am what they refer to as high-functioning. I went through most of 2017 convinced that I was doing well. I was eating right, exercising and actually getting some sleep. However,Read More

As #Namibia celebrates its #IndependenceDay may yo As #Namibia celebrates its #IndependenceDay may you be reminded that you are indeed free to be the authentic version of yourself.

You are not bound by the thoughts and beliefs of others. Who you are matters. Don’t be afraid to occupy that space.

The word of this month is PASSION. Passion not f The word of this month is PASSION.

Passion not for what’s around you, but for what’s within you.

How much time do you spend doing things you are passionate about? The things that bring your spirit joy and solidify your purpose?

Many of us grew up being taught that we have to serve others. But very little time was spent being taught that we, before anything, have to serve ourselves. It’s only when we are at our best that we can best help others.

So this month, be a bit selfish. Spend time on things that light up your spirit; spend time on things you are passionate about.

On my blog, roslimbo.com, I share how 2021 helped me uncover some of my toxic traits.

This year I’ve decided to have a word for every This year I’ve decided to have a word for every month. This helps set the town of what I wish to accomplish during the month.

The word this month is POWER.

Alice Walker once said “The most common way people give up power is by thinking they don’t have any”. I realised that I’ve been doing that for most of my life.

I’ve always felt powerless because everyone seemed to have it all together. Everyone seemed to have the upper hand because they were smart, prettier, stronger…

But I’m starting to realise that there is power in being myself. Power in being a socially awkward extrovert that loves people in a very quiet and gentle manner. Power in wanting to help other become the best versions of themselves (ironic I know). Power in living a life that I love even if it’s not what is expected of me.

This is an example of how an eating disorder looks This is an example of how an eating disorder looks like on a black woman.

Black women suffer eating disorders at the same rate as white women, however, black women are less likely to be diagnosed.

This is due to a number of reasons. But the leading factor, in my opinion, is the stereotype of “strong black woman”. Society, of which doctors and psychiatrists are part of, look at black women as not needing any help or assistance.

For as long as the world continues to push this narrative, many black women will fall between the cracks and fail to get the help they need.
