Why You Jealous?

The thing about jealousy is that it creeps up on you when you least expect it. You are in the middle of celebrating a friends success and you feel your chest tighten. Before you know it your heart is beating faster and your mind is racing… Why do you feel this way when you are genuinely happy for your friend?
It is okay to be jealous but make sure you find out why you are jealous. Jealousy has nothing to do with the next person but has everything to do with you. Jealousy stems from a place within yourself where you believe you are not deserving of certain things. You find yourself in this predicament because:
a) people have something you believe you will never have; or
b) people have something you believe you are not worthy of having
By repeating this false premise so many times, you have come to believe it as true. It is time you are honest with yourself. You have to delve into your past and find out where this false premise comes from. Only through sorting out the messy past, can we change our current mindset. Here are a few tips that can help you on this journey of escaping envy:
All that glitters is not gold
Social media has painted an image of perfection that is unrealistic and unattainable. People are always at parties, having fun, but you have to remember that people don’t post about their struggles. Everyone has their burden to bare, so don’t envy the life of someone else.
Stay in your lane
Your goal in life is different from the person sitting next to you. Jealousy is distracting; jealousy is a sign that you have stopped working on your own goals and have started focusing your energy on the goals of someone else.
Count your blessings
Believe it or not, there is someone out there looking at you and wishing they had your life. They have borne witness to your hard work and achievements. Remind yourself of all the things you have wanted in the past and now possess. You are more than capable of reaching that level of success you crave.
There is enough success to go around
One person’s success does not take away your ability to reach your desired level of success. Success is not a well that will dry up over time. Success is bountiful and unending. There is enough to go around.
Envy is a wasteful emotion. Honor yourself, honor your dreams. And remember: you too are deserving of greatness.
